Aligning a satellite dish: practical tips for home and holidays

A good satellite picture starts with careful installation. Before you travel, also check whether your dish is suitable for satellite coverage at your destination.

Get started in five steps

  1. Choose a clear line of sight. Trees and buildings must not block the direction of the satellite.
  2. Position the mount upright and securely. A tilted installation makes accurate adjustment harder.
  3. Set the angles for your location. The elevation and rotation of the receiving head (LNB) depend on where you are. Use location-specific settings.
  4. Align the dish slowly. Use your receiver’s signal display and optimise reception from the desired satellite. Canal Digitaal lists Astra 3 at 23.5° east as the first checkpoint.
  5. Update the channel list. After alignment, load the current list through the receiver menu.

A signal, but no picture?

If you see an entitlement or encryption message, also check the status of your subscription and smart card. Refer to Canal Digitaal’s instructions.
